Heavy wind can make boat control difficult, but it also creates some of the most productive fishing conditions of the season when approached correctly.
Today’s strongest bite developed along windblown shorelines and secondary points where baitfish were concentrated against submerged structure. Electronics showed large schools of suspended bait throughout much of the afternoon.
Crappies were holding slightly deeper than expected, suspended in 14–18 feet of water near brush piles and isolated weed clumps. Small plastics under slip bobbers worked well once fish were located.
Northern pike were extremely active around shallow weed flats adjacent to deeper water. Several aggressive fish hit spinnerbaits retrieved quickly through emerging vegetation.
A few bonus walleyes were also mixed into the same transition areas, especially near harder bottom structure.
With consistent wind in the forecast, similar areas should continue producing over the next several days.
