Warmer afternoon temperatures over the past several days have accelerated weed growth across many shallow bays, and largemouth bass are starting to position aggressively around these new weed lines.
The best action occurred during the first two hours after sunrise and again shortly before sunset. Hollow-body frogs worked particularly well when fished slowly across sparse vegetation and pockets near reeds.
Fish were holding tight to cover, especially in areas with mixed cabbage and lily pad growth. Several bass in the 3–4 pound range were caught in less than 6 feet of water.
As the sun climbed higher, the bite shifted deeper toward outside weed edges. Weightless stick baits and swim jigs became more effective during midday conditions.
If stable weather continues, the topwater bite should only improve heading into the weekend.
